Meet the Fulshear Team Behind Mainspring Garage Door Co.

We’re the crew that shows up when your garage door won’t budge at six on a Saturday, or when you’re standing in a new driveway in Cross Creek Ranch wondering if that custom carriage door will actually fit. Every person here answers to Carl Dutton, and every one of us carries the same K.E.Y.S. code in our back pocket. Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it. That’s not a poster on the wall. It’s how we decide who we hire and how we train them. Fulshear’s grown fast, and we’ve grown with it, but we’re still small enough that Carl knows everyone’s name and their kids’ names too.

Our People

Carl Dutton, Owner

I started this company in 1984, back when Fulshear was a dot on FM 359 and most folks in Houston couldn’t find it on a map. Named it Mainspring because that single coil does all the heavy lifting on a garage door, and I liked the idea of being the thing nobody thinks about until it matters. Forty-two years later, I’m still answering the phone myself some nights, still driving out to jobs when a spring breaks in a way I’ve never seen before. I hold a Texas Residential Construction Commission certification and I’ve factory-trained on every brand we service, from the old Raynor torsion systems to the newest LiftMaster wall-mount openers. My wife says I talk about garage doors at dinner parties. She’s not wrong, and I don’t apologize for it.

Marcus T., Lead Technician

Marcus has been with us eleven years, which in this trade means he’s seen just about every failure mode a garage door can throw at you. He’s the one we send when a homeowner in Weston Lakes calls saying their door sounds like a gunshot went off in the garage, usually a broken torsion spring that dropped the full weight of a solid wood door onto the opener rail. Marcus is certified in high-tension spring replacement and carries a full spring inventory on his truck, so most Fulshear spring jobs finish in one visit. He grew up in Katy, played offensive line at Cinco Ranch High, and still coaches youth football on weekends. His players call him Coach T. We call him when the job’s got hair on it.

Elena R., Senior Installer

Elena joined us in 2019 after eight years running her own handyman business in the Richmond-Rosenberg area. She got tired of turning down garage door jobs because she didn’t have the crew or the supplier relationships, so she came to us and said she’d rather do one thing really well. Now she’s our lead installer for new construction and full replacements across Fulshear, from the patio homes in Cross Creek Ranch to the custom builds going up along Churchill Farms. She’s Clopay Master Authorized and Amarr Certified, which means she can spec and warranty their full product lines without a factory rep stepping in. Elena keeps a notebook of every oddball framing situation she’s encountered, and she’s not shy about telling a builder when their rough opening needs to be reframed before the door goes in. Off the clock, she runs a small farmette near Brookshire with too many chickens and one opinionated donkey named Gerald.

Darnell J., Service Coordinator

Darnell is the live voice you get when you call (409) 794-4141 at midnight on a Sunday. He’s been with us four years, and before that he dispatchsed for a commercial HVAC outfit in Sugar Land, so he knows how to triage an emergency without panicking the caller. He holds our scheduling board, routes the trucks, and keeps track of which technician has which parts so we’re not sending someone to Simonton for a Genie screw drive when the only person carrying that inventory is already in Pecan Grove. Darnell is also the one who follows up after every job to make sure the 90-Day Done Right Promise isn’t just words on an invoice. He was born in Missouri City, still lives there with his partner and their two dogs, and has an uncanny memory for every customer’s name and their garage door model. Ask him about the time he talked a Fulshear homeowner through manually disengaging a stuck opener during a lightning storm. He’ll tell you the story, but he’ll downplay it.

Tyler B., Apprentice Technician

Tyler’s been with us fourteen months, straight out of the Lone Star College construction technology program. He’s still in his journeyman shadowing phase, which means he’s paired with Marcus or Elena on every job until Carl signs off on his solo certification. Tyler’s specialty so far is opener diagnostics, the electrical and logic-board side of things that a lot of old-school techs never fully mastered. He’s already factory-authorized on LiftMaster and Chamberlain smart openers, and he’s the one who figured out why three Fulshear customers in Cross Creek Ranch had intermittent Wi-Fi connectivity issues with their MyQ apps. The problem was router placement relative to the garage’s metal siding, not the opener at all. Tyler’s from Fulshear originally, graduated from Faith Academy, and lives with his parents while he saves for his own place. He asks a lot of questions. We like that.

One Standard, Every Job

Every person on this page, from Carl down to Tyler, works under the same written guarantee: the 90-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, we come back. No paperwork to file, no manager to escalate to, no argument about whether the issue is related. We fix it or we refund it, period. That promise travels with us across all thirteen communities we serve, but it starts here in Fulshear, where Carl still keeps the original 1984 invoice book in his desk drawer as a reminder of where we came from. Our trucks roll with springs, cables, openers, and hardware for all major brands, so most jobs finish in a single visit. The price we state before we start is the price on the invoice. No surprises on the bill. That’s a square deal, and it’s the only way we know how to work.

Standing offers that never disappear: $50 off any repair over $250, a free second opinion on any written estimate, $89 seasonal tune-ups, and a permanent 5% discount for seniors and veterans.
